Healing from Internalized Whiteness Training Retreat

  • Rose Apple Society 10673 South Road South Woodstock, VT, 05071 United States (map)

A Plum Village Retreat providing training and practices to support white people who are committed to addressing white supremacy

More and more white people are becoming aware of the deeply embedded and normalized nature of white supremacy in our society and are wanting to do something to end it.

However, this is made very difficult by their unconsciously conditioned ignorance to how they themselves have internalized whiteness  - and how much healing from internalized whiteness is needed to make it possible for them to engage in anti-racism work without unintentionally perpetuating racism.

That's why we're offering this retreat - and hopefully more in the future!

PURPOSE: This training retreat is designed to support you in this healing journey, using mindfulness-based practices and by being in a sangha committed to raising our racial awareness and taking action for collective liberation.

WHO: For primarily white people who have a developed mindfulness and meditation practice and want to take action to address white supremacy and grow racial justice work in our Dharma communities - starting within yourselves. People of color and mixed race people who are interested in  undoing internalized whiteness in white people and in themselves are asked to first contact the trainer (retreats@sandrakim.com) to make sure it's an appropriate retreat for them.

WHAT: You will get the Healing from Internalized Whiteness training in the container of a Plum Village retreat. The focus will be in understanding 1) how internalized whiteness functions in ourselves and our society, 2) how we can care for its toxic effects with mindfulness-based practices, and 3) how we can approach conversations with other white people about racism from a place of solidity within ourselves, spaciousness with others, and shared humanity.

WHEN: Friday, September 21, 2018 - Tuesday, September 25, 2018. Retreatants are expected to stay the entire time since this is a training retreat and important components of the training will be shared on Monday and Tuesday.

Check in for the retreat is on Friday, September 22nd, from 3 pm - 5 pm so you may have enough time to register and settle in before dinner at 6:00 pm. Orientation will be at 7:30 pm.

If you arrive before check in starts, please enjoy the beautiful land at Rose Apple Society on your own and know that you will be given more guidance once check in starts.

Check out for the retreat is on Tuesday, September 25th after the 1 pm lunch. Please aim to leave after lunch is served, which is right after the closing circle.
