2024 Opening Heart Fall 1/2 Day of Mindfulness: Grounding During Uncertain Times

  • 3838 Northampton Street Northwest Washington, DC, 20015 United States (map)

Saturday, November 16
12:30 - 4:30pm EST
In person

This event is full - registration is closed.

We invite you to join us on November 16 for a 4-hour in person retreat facilitated by Annie and Patricia and supported by DeeDee, Gerry, and Rachel.

If you are feeling unsettled with all that is happening in the world, and are looking for a space to come together, please join us! Following the U.S. election and the midst of upending wars, racial injustice, and environmental degradation around the world, we will practice to ground ourselves in the present moment, reflect on interbeing and impermanence, transform our fear and anxiety into compassion and resilience, and generate ease and calm during what may be challenging times.

During our 4-hour retreat, we will enjoy a guided deep relaxation, mindful movements or outdoor walking meditation (weather depending), a short silent meditation, a recorded talk by Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh, and have time to share our experiences with each other. Snacks and tea will be provided.

Because we know the benefits of having a wide diversity of experience in our sanghas, we explicitly welcome people of all races, shapes, sizes, neuro-diversities, gender expressions, sexual orientations and anyone who has ever felt sidelined or marginalized for any reason.

We will offer a platform for people to arrange to carpool to the studio if you don’t have transportation (we are not monitoring this so ridesharing isn’t guaranteed).

Space is limited, so please sign up early.

The Opening Heart Mindfulness Community seeks to foster understanding and compassion by providing vibrant and generous opportunities to practice mindfulness within a diverse community in the Plum Village tradition, founded by Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh. We recognize that in supporting racial and social justice equity within our sangha and throughout the mahasangha, we support the work of transformation individually and collectively.
